Whoever said 50 is the new 40? Were they kidding?

Last week, I marked a milestone. A half century mark....the big 5 OH.  I really hope that 50 is the new 40, and what exactly does that mean? Does that mean that I have been granted a ten year "do-over"?  Someone please explain!
